About Spot Bot

What is Spot Bot?

Spot Bot is a precious-metals toolbox at spot-bot.co.uk that does five things particularly well:

  • Calculator — work out melt value for any weight, purity and metal in 12 currencies.
  • Live spot & per-purity charts — see 18ct gold history, not just pure gold.
  • Portfolio tracker — log what you own, see live value and P&L.
  • Ratios & history — gold:silver ratio over time, historical date lookups.
  • Pro extras — price alerts, AI receipt scanning, portfolio summary emails, public share links.
Do I need an account?

No. The calculator, charts, ratios, history and currency conversion all work without an account or sign-up.

The portfolio tracker also works without an account — your items are saved in your browser's local storage. You'll want an account if you want to:

  • Sync your portfolio across devices
  • Get price alert emails
  • Get portfolio summary emails
  • Use any other Pro feature
How accurate are the prices?

Live spot prices come from metalpriceapi.com, a commercial market-data provider. They refresh approximately every minute. Spot prices are quoted per troy ounce in your selected currency.

That said: Spot Bot is for guidance only. For actual transactions (buying, selling, scrapping), always confirm with the dealer. Prices on the site are not a financial offer.

Why "per-purity" charts?

Most precious-metals sites show only the spot price of pure gold or silver. But you might own 9ct gold, 22ct, sterling silver or fine silver. Spot Bot's charts let you pick the purity once and see that specific alloy's value over time — so the line you see actually reflects what your stuff is worth, not pure-metal theory.

Pro features & pricing

What's in Pro that's not in Free?

Free users get all the live-price tools, the calculator, the charts, and a 15-item portfolio with cloud sync. Pro adds:

  • Unlimited portfolio items
  • Price alerts — email when a metal crosses your threshold
  • Portfolio summary emails — daily / weekly / monthly with period-over-period change
  • AI document scanner — drop in any receipt, PDF or text file and the form auto-fills
  • Public share link — read-only URL to show your collection
  • Photos stored in the cloud (Cloudflare R2)
  • Price-lock for life — your subscription rate never increases

Full comparison on the Pricing page.

How much does Pro cost?

Three options:

  • Monthly: £1.99/month, auto-renews until cancelled.
  • Yearly: £20/year, auto-renews until cancelled. Saves ~16% versus monthly.
  • Lifetime: £50 one-off, no renewal, keeps you on Pro for as long as Spot Bot exists.

All paid in GBP via Stripe. Test card details are not required to browse — you only enter payment information at the Stripe checkout step.

What does the "price-lock for life" promise mean?

If you subscribe at the £1.99/month rate today, you keep paying £1.99/month for as long as your subscription stays active. Even if we raise prices for new customers in the future, you stay on your original rate.

The lock only holds while your subscription is uninterrupted. If you cancel and re-subscribe later, the then-current pricing applies. Lifetime users have already paid in full, so they have nothing recurring to lock.

This commitment is written into our Terms of Use — it's not just marketing.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. Click Manage subscription in your account menu (or in Settings) — it opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel in one click. You'll keep Pro access until the end of the period you've already paid for, then revert to Free. Your portfolio data stays in your account, nothing gets deleted.

No cancellation fees, no questions asked.

Refunds?

Monthly/yearly subscriptions: case-by-case within 14 days of payment, just email us. After that, cancel and you'll lose access at the end of your paid period (no further charges).

Lifetime: case-by-case within 30 days of purchase. After that, the plan is final — please ask before buying if you're unsure.

What's an affiliate code?

If a friend or content creator shared a Spot Bot link with ?ref=THEIRCODE in it, or gave you a code to type in the upgrade modal, that's an affiliate code. Some codes also unlock a free trial period — the upgrade modal will tell you if so.

Account & data

How do I sign in?

Spot Bot uses magic-link sign-in: you enter your email, we send you a one-tap link that expires in 15 minutes. No password to forget, no password to leak. The same flow handles signup and sign-in — first email creates your account, subsequent ones just log you in.

Can I export my data?

Yes — from the Portfolio tab, Export gives you CSV or JSON. Both contain all your portfolio items with every field. This works for free and Pro users alike.

Can I import from a spreadsheet?

Yes. CSV import is free for everyone — drop a file from Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers etc. and Spot Bot auto-detects your columns (it understands "Karat", "Type", "Material", various date formats, currency symbols, etc.). Rows with missing required fields are routed into a per-row review flow where you fill the gaps.

Pro users can additionally drop in PDFs, photos and text files — the AI scanner extracts items from them.

What if I sign in on a shared computer?

Always sign out when you're done. Spot Bot wipes your portfolio data from the device on sign-out so the next user doesn't see it. If a different account signs in on the same browser, we also wipe stale local data before adopting their portfolio.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Danger zone → Delete my account. Type your email to confirm. This is irreversible and wipes everything in seconds: every portfolio item, every photo, every alert, every preference, your Stripe customer record (cancelling any active subscriptions), and your user row.

Lifetime plan holders: please email first if you'd like a refund discussion — deletion does not automatically trigger a refund.

Where are your servers?

Cloudflare's global edge network. Your database, photo storage and the worker that serves the site all run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may store data in jurisdictions including the UK, EU and US under appropriate transfer safeguards. Our other processors are Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Anthropic (Pro receipt scanning) and metalpriceapi (price data). Full list in our Privacy Policy.

Privacy & security

Is my portfolio data private?

Yes. We never sell, share or analyse the contents of your portfolio (items, photos, notes, storage locations). The only people who can see this data are you and — in rare audited cases — the operator investigating a bug or fulfilling a support request.

If you opt in to the public share link, the share view shows only metals + values you choose. Photos, notes, storage locations, tags and purchase dates are never exposed via the share link.

Does Spot Bot use my data to train AI?

No. Pro receipt scanning sends your uploaded file plus our parsing prompt to Anthropic's Claude API. We don't send your email, account ID or portfolio data. Anthropic's API is configured for transactional use (responses are not used to train models). We don't run any other AI/ML on your data.

What about payment data?

Stripe handles all card and billing data directly. We never see, store or have access to your card number, CVV, expiry or billing address. We hold only a Stripe "customer ID" reference so we can let you open the billing portal. When you delete your Spot Bot account, we also delete the Stripe customer record.

What about the password?

There isn't one — Spot Bot uses magic-link sign-in. The session cookie set after you click a magic link is HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Lax, with a 90-day rolling lifespan. Session tokens are stored as SHA-256 hashes in the database, never plaintext.

UK GDPR rights?

Full list in our Privacy Policy: access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection, withdrawal of consent. The fastest way to exercise erasure is the Delete-account button in Settings. For anything else, email [email protected].

Technical & integrations

Can I embed the live price ticker on a stream?

Yes — Pro users can generate a ticker URL in Settings → Ticker access. Paste it as an OBS browser source for a slim live-price overlay. The URL contains your access key so it works inside OBS (where cookies aren't available). You can generate multiple keys (one per scene) and revoke any of them at any time.

How often do prices refresh?

The main UI refreshes spot prices every 60 seconds. Per-tab refresh also fires whenever you return to the browser tab if more than a minute has elapsed. Server-side caching keeps API quota usage low; if a price seems stale, hard-refresh the page.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes — the site is fully responsive. There's no native iOS or Android app yet, but it's on the roadmap. Add the site to your home screen for an app-like experience in the meantime.

Why magic-link sign-in instead of passwords?

Better security (no password to leak), zero friction (no "forgot password" flow), and fewer credentials for you to manage. We may add password support in the future if there's enough demand, but magic links cover the realistic threat model nicely.

Can I report a bug or request a feature?

Yes — every signed-in user has a 💬 Send feedback option in their account menu. It comes straight to the operator's inbox with your account email set as Reply-To, so we can write back directly.

Didn't find your answer?

Email [email protected] or use the in-app feedback form (account menu → 💬 Send feedback) and we'll get back to you.
